In the progression of my career, an opportunity arose for me to join one of the ‘Big 4’ supermarket giants in a senior managerial position. This has given me the perfect platform to demonstrate my wide range of professional skills which I have built up over a number of years in high pressure roles. It has also allowed me the opportunity to lead a well established team of 2 fully qualified and 4 part-qualified accountants in a high pressured and fast moving environment. In my role, I provide full daily accounting including a range of KPI’s and Cost Analysis, across all the ledgers within the whole finance department and I am also responsible for providing accurate costing and BOM preparation to both internal sales and third party clients. This work feeds my weekly and monthly regular duties that include Flash Reporting and the preparation of Management Accounts. By the nature of my position, it is vital that I am able to react quickly and decisively to any new information or demands that I receive, from any source, to ensure that we meet the maximum business efficiency that is possible. I currently provide validation and guidance in relation to a number of projects and monitor the progress of the projects in real time; many of my reports and conclusions are used by Morrisons’ head office to base their future business decisions on. I present my reports at director level on a weekly basis, so accuracy and clarity is very important. My input to head office is essential to ensure that they are able to keep ahead of our competitors in business.

Upon accepting this role with the global leader in bespoke security CCTV equipment manufacture, I saw an opportunity to make a considerable difference in a major operational role within a multinational company; a company that has steadily grown year on year. I was tasked with developing the department into a powerful management tool that could boast content and reliability, not just to the finance team, but across the business as a whole. Leading a small team, I set about redesigning under-performing processes, developing reports that could both challenge related departments and provide value in the management decision making. I further developed and accurately set up systems to record financial data that could be analysed and compared to forecasts. Particular focus was set to cost of sales and labour which previously was inaccurate and unreliable.

I have designed many new worksheets in my current role and automated many previously labour-intensive tasks. My reporting skills are widely commended for their clarity and content. Whilst working full time, I dedicated many unsocial hours studying to gain my CIMA qualification. Having passed all my exams, I will be admitted as a member of the professional body in December 2015.

Initially brought in to cover for a secondment to a project team, my employment was extended for a further 4 months. My role was to maintain the continuity in a busy and vital finance office, for a company that is a billion dollar energy provider.Using a variety of software packages, I would track and report the use of valuable assets and report on movements in the asset register using the Equivalent Operating Hours method. Each component in the Gas-Fired Power Station is of extremely high value and governed by strict regulatory law. Accuracy and completeness was of utmost importance.

Using my spare time and providing my own funding, I took my first bookkeeping qualification in order to show my seriousness to earn my qualifications. This brought me to the attention of the Finance Manager who offered me my first role in Credit Control.Working my way through the ranks, I was promoted to a Trainee Management Account role within Arco's large Management Accounts team. Whilst working full time, I achieved my AAT qualification and also gained valuable work experience in numerous reporting and reconciliation tasks. This included stock reporting, stock revaluation, and fleet management.
