•Developed and implemented a spreadsheet to track equipment failures and identify bad actors in the plant. Results of spreadsheet help focus reliability improvement efforts through Pareto analysis.•Performed FMECA (Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis) to proactively identify failure modes on equipment and take corrective actions before failure. Identified critical spare parts and predictive and preventive maintenance programs necessary to decrease repair costs and production downtime.•Developed a preventive maintenance program for flexible metallic hoses. Spreadsheet calculates the appropriate change-out frequency for these hoses based on a set of input parameters. Program is in the process of being rolled out to all six plants in the business unit. •Developed a new scheduling tool in Google Sheets to improve the efficiency of maintenance planning and scheduling. The tool automates several components including the calculation of metrics to determine planning efficiency and schedule adherence. •Organized and lead monthly teleconference between reliability engineers at six plants to drive knowledge sharing and communicate lessons learned across the business unit.
  • Solvay
    Reliability Engineer
    Solvay Jul 2013 - Jan 2015

•Completed several small capital projects (<$25k) to make reliability improvements around the plant •Completed RCFA on the plant's furnace furnace which mitigated both extensive furnace refractory damage as well as an OEE loss of ~300 tons/day•Filled in as Maintenance Planner & Scheduler for a 10 week period. Responsible for scheduling 360 man hours of work each week for 6 mechanics and 3 I&E techs and ensuring proper parts or support (i.e. scaffolding, cranes, inspectors) were in place. Work included PM's, repairs, replacements, demolition, etc. •Managed ~$200k of repair work during plant Turnarounds in 2013 & 2014

    • Lead project manager on study aimed at optimizing the rinse cycle on the plant’s polymerization reactors. Responsible for developing trials to better understand the importance of each variable in the rinse cycle, testing the polymer samples taken, analyzing the resulting data, and performing cost analysis to quantify the advantages/disadvantages of each trial. Identified potential for 1% increase in annual production capacity.• Performed study aimed at optimizing the blending duration for the polymer in the plant’s blend tanks to reach a desired melt flow index. Study was successful in determining the shortest possible blending duration, which improved the total production cycle time.• Investigated the effects of several process parameters on gloss levels in the plant’s coatings product. Monitored dew point, dry bulb temperature, and air pressure on the plant’s air mill feed air system and correlated data readings with gloss levels. Also coordinated lab trials in a humidity chamber to understand possible influence of ambient air.• Helped develop and perform test method to determine the percent solution of one of the product’s raw materials. Method helped validate the preparation and handling of the raw material.• Aided with the implementation of a new optical pellet sorter used in quality testing that scans for defects in the melts product. Responsible for running routine tests to determine the accuracy of the scanner as well as determining the optimal sample size to be scanned from each product batch.
