I am CEO of Built by Nature whose mission is to accelerate the use of certified, sustainable timber and other sustainably sourced bio-based materials to transform our built environment. I'm passionate about sustainable development - creating beautiful places for people that are fit for the future and protecting the world's best natural places and extraordinary biodiversity. And, as a middle-aged white man, I'm committed to authentic leadership and doing what I can to foster a fairer, more inclusive and diverse workplace environment.I was Managing Director for Sustainability & Social Impact at Lendlease Europe from February 2015 to August 2023. Before that I was the founder CEO of the UK Green Building Council - a 'campaign for a sustainable built environment' - from May 2007. Previously I worked for WWF-UK where I was Director of Campaigns, and formerly Campaign Director for WWF's One Million Sustainable Homes campaign and a co-founder of One Planet Living. I'm proud to have served as Vice Chair and trustee of Centre for London, London's leading think tank for a fairer city, for 6 years until February 2023. Previous non-executive roles include Chairman of the Zero Carbon Hub from 2008-2016 and I was a member of the Zero Carbon Homes 2016 Task Force. I was Chair of the Green Construction Board Buildings Working Group, member of the Technology Strategy Board’s Low Impact Building Programme Steering Group, the Government’s Housing Sounding Board and the Igloo Regeneration Sustainability Committee. I was a member of the Low Carbon Construction IGT, Sustainable Buildings Task Group, Code for Sustainable Homes Steering Group and the Egan Review of Skills for Sustainable Communities. On an international level I was a Board member of the World Green Building Council and Chair of the WorldGBC Europe Network from 2007 - 2015.
