I am currently managing all aspects of the retrocession activity for the company, including retrocession calculation, billing and accounting, reinsurance leakage reviews, designing, building, testing and implementing reinsurance recoverables reports, managing relationships with our retrocession partners, identifying commutation targets and chasing outstanding reinsurance recoveries. In my reporting role I am tasked with designing, testing and implementing new reporting tools derived from SAP Business Objects which itself is bolted on to SICS, our reinsurance administration system. This has involved moving away from MS Excel macro and MS SQL query tools and replacing former reports with Business Objects reporting tools. I am also responsible for providing analytical, tend analysis and data mining information on our portfolios for local and group management reporting as well as to actuarial and claims management functions. I am also responsible for the correction of historical data issues. My account managing responsibilities include managing the relationship with our TPA who currently administered a Marine and a Construction All Risks portfolio for us, including coordinating claims, settlements, reinsurance, reporting and financial accounting activities. I have been extensively involved in data clean up exercises to ensure the smooth operation and data flows in relation to these managed portfolios. I also manage the relationships within our existing run-off portfolios establishing strong, positive, mutually beneficial and long term relationships. I have been appointed the local ESG representative for Switzerland in 2020 and have been implementing and coordinating our local efforts and Group wide efforts. I have been actively involved in the Group wide ESG reporting function, helping to design and implement local and Group reporting tools. I have a great passion for the emerging ESG function in corporate life and enjoy the challenges this part of my job brings.

2013 to 2019I was part of a small team charged with the responsibility of the reinsurance asset. My focus here was on delivering reporting tools and solutions to allow our team, and the department as a whole, to achieve our goals. To this end I conceived and produced numerous practical reporting and monitoring solutions that cover the Company's ever more complex reinsurance programs reporting requirements. I achieved unique success with the design and production of reinsurance treaty performance and reinsurer monitoring tools, housed in a one-stop-shop dashboard. I introduced new future proofed data mining and reporting formats to replace old cumbersome management reporting tools, delivering a clearer, more focused message, dramatically reducing production time and required resources, as well as allowing for synergies across other reporting areas. Here I really harnessed my MS Excel skills.From 2011 to 2013 During this period I took a lead role in transitioning the management and administration of the Winterthur International run-off from Switzerland to teams in India and the UK. Part of this transition included a major system sunsetting and conversion project. Here I was a key collaborator in the planning, designing, testing, implementation of the conversion as well as training of both onshore and offshore teams. Ultimately delivering net benefits of $1.7m.From 2006 to 2011 I was brought to Switzerland to assist with the administration of the Winterthur International run-off portfolio. I played a significant role in clearing historic and problematic reinsurance recoverable balances down from CHF 475m to CHF 1m. I took a lead role in transitioning work to, and then coached and developed, new teams at XL India in my new role as Onshore Manager for the run-off portfolio. I also contributed to the successful commutation of numerous treaties and facultative placements, delivering cost savings and reduced reinsurer credit risk.

In this role I was immediately seconded to XL UK, working to ensure XL retained key accounts by honouring premium payment warranties that were being missed due to a backlog. This required the recording, analysing and reporting of technical transactions, as well as responding to cedant, captive and reinsurer queries, and finally compiling progress reports relating to account retention to managing director of XL UK. From there I was moved on to work on various other administrative backlogs faced by the client. This eventually led to a further secondment at XL Switzerland at the request of the Run-off Manager, working to assist and support the run-off of the Winterthur International / Vitodurum Re run-off. Here I was tasked with expediting reinsurer query response and resolution times. I was able to improve the methods of communication with reinsurers, which ultimately resulted in the easing of payment restrictions placed on the company by reinsurers. I achieved this by designing reporting tools to aid our reinsurers, that we would also use in our commutation exercises. I also provided support for data mining and providing data analysis during a significant arbitration which was running concurrentlyThis overseas secondment was originally planned for 6 weeks, but my impact was greatly welcomed and I was offered a full time contract with XL Services Switzerland.

Here I found myself a member of the small finance and administration team. This was particularly enjoyable as it allowed me great exposure to many back office areas of reinsurance and allowed for close collaboration with the CFO and his Finance Manager. I was also able to foster excellent relationships with the small underwriting and claims teams, working with the CUO as well as the head of claims to understand their needs and to deliver bespoke solutions to their issues. During my time here I successfully took over and cleared a huge cash matching back log for the finance team. I was also able to develop and introduce training programs in MS Excel for other staff members. I found this very rewarding as I was able to share my Excel skills with colleagues and see the benefits to their working routine almost immediately. Using my Excel skills I was also able to standardise the production of monthly, quarterly and year end reports for management reporting, allowing production tasks to be carried out among the small finance team. I then designed and implemented new procedures to automate financial reporting, allowing for more in depth analysis and cutting production time significantly. I was also able to introduce a new electronic bank reconciliation process for monthly reporting, greatly streamlining existing procedures. Unfortunately the entity was put into run-off and then acquired by a specialist run-off company, which in turn brought about new challenges and experiences.
