About Paul Lapointe
Over the last 20+ years, I've been lucky to work in a variety of environments that have provided me a unique experience in a variety of technical and non-technical roles. I've helped launch a high tech start-up and fostered the adoption of a new generation of monitoring & database high-availability products. I also have hands-on operational experience as a DBA in the nuclear industry. While databases and high availability have been the main technical theme of my career, I’m more defined by my daily down-to-earth practice of Agile principles. I believe that underlying principles of the Agile manifesto lead to more successful software companies and happier development teams, and it’s the values of Agile that lead to more successful technology companies and happier development teams. I like to “Get it done”.My excellent oral and written communication skills, partnered with an intuitive understanding of people, have led me from development, to consulting, to technical sales and back to engineering. I’ve enjoyed building relationships across a variety of industries, including banking and financial, government, nuclear and retail. I've authored a book on the subject of technical communication based on my experiences. The key to successful technology is good engineering; the key to good engineering is the ability to listen. An organisation's destiny is determined by its ability to recognise what is needed next. That's why genuine communication and relationships are essential to an effective IT team. As a product owner & architect, fostering effective communication, within my team, and outside with stakeholders is a passion that drives me.
