I help users to port, compile, test and run application software on large scale parallel high performance computers.

At the Mathematical Sciences Institute, I conduct research, write papers, maintain software and give presentations relating to many topics in computational mathematics, including linear and multilinear algebra, constructive approximation, numerical solution of partial differential equations, combinatorics and statistics.

This involved the building of tools and capabilities, familiarization with the computational requirements of the School and ad hoc advice and support. Tools and other deliverables included: a set of web pages describing the Advanced Scientific Computing support services offered, and giving high level advice; repositories used to archive Complex Systems presentations and papers, based on Repository in a Box (RIB) 3.0, using Apache Tomcat, Java Server Pages and MySQL 5; porting of the Complex Systems repositories to the main Physics hosts; an example archive for use by other groups within the School; Tweaker: a graphical application builder, based on Xoetrope XUI and Java Swing; Suprangen: a portable library of random number generators; a patch to Heasoft Xspec which allows it to work with Fortran 95; a triple cathode version of the LabView trigger program for the high current pulsed arc system used by Applied and Plasma Physics. In 1995, I joined Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) as an experienced consultant. Initially, I trained new analysts in the C programming language and in client / server programming. During 1996, I helped establish the Foundation Software Organization Asia-Pacific Support Centre in Melbourne.From 1996 to 2001, I worked as a specialist in knowledge management in Accenture. I specialized in the application of knowledge management to Accenture's technology organization.

In 1989, I joined TIAS as a senior systems specialist, where I supported and enhanced the Premier Upgrade system. This included setting up a permanent test system, guiding the certification by SITA of the P1X24 SLC software component, and porting the system to Stratus RISC hardware. I helped port the TIAS system to Southern Cross - Galileo. I supervised a group within Qantek (now Qantas) which used the TIAS system as the basis of an X.25 - EDIFACT system link between Sabre and QANTAM. I advised on the architecture of an SQL-based insurance application, and advised on selection of an air cargo community system, and helped to implement it. I participated in the EDICA (now Tradegate) Transport Industry Working Party and in the International Air Transport Association Standards Implementation Subgroup. I participated in a technical architecture planning project, advised on the selection of an email system for use by travel agents, and advised on the use of the Internet and the World Wide Web within TIAS.
