Joining the Navy at 18 I had the same dream everyone does when they join. Do my 5 and get out with some benefits. 21 years later and I truly found the things that light that fire. - Breathing Life into dead equipment. I love the challenge of troubleshooting. It's like a murder mystery novel every time. Sometimes you know who did it by the end of chapter 2 and sometimes there’s a twist ending. But the satisfaction of hearing that hum after hours of pulling out your hair is hard to beat. - Influencing others to succeed. Leadership, at any level, is the art form of manipulation. Whether you’re manipulating your seniors to take the road you think is right, or your juniors to avoid your mistakes and succeed. Helping others to succeed in spite of the obstacles on their path. - Training the future to be better than the past. I’ve come to love training, both the actual act of training, and the development of future training. It leaves me with the feeling that I might live forever. We are not the sum total value of our experiences when we die.
