Started my career as a developer of mostly Java backend applications with some C++ and other languages mixed in. While always interested in the operational side of things, I transitioned over to a full time operations role in 2011 and have been working in the DevOps area ever since.My development background experience has been valuable as technical operations as evolved to using processes and tools that used to be the sole domain of development (e.g. infrastructure as code, configuration as code, code repositories, etc.).Automate it if it can be. Refactor it if it cannot.
