Owner - WinemakerMaugle Sierra Vineyards Llc Feb 2002 - Present825 - 827 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard 06339After purchasing the property in 2002, we cleared the first 10 acres, sold the wood and internal stone walls to pay for the installation of the first 5 acres of vineyard. In 2007 we finished clearing and planted our second 6 acre vineyard, and in 2010 we began clearing for a third vineyard. Our first wine was produced in 2005 from St. Croix grapes grown in our first vineyard. After extensive testing by various focus groups, we produced three red wines. In 2006 we received our federal license and in 2007 we obtained our license to sell wine from the state of Connecticut. We began our retail component of this business in May of 2007. At present we have opened the Sierra Sunset room for wine tasting and as a venue to host events. We host live music on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. So what I do is: Scout for diseases and spray the fields accordingly, Make the wine, Blend the wines so that consistant products are produced, bottle the wines, run the retail operation, do the marketing, and pay the bills. In 2010 we began to hire several part time helpers for both the vineyard and the retail components of the business. From a Connecticut woodland to a Retail and Wholesale operation in 10 years. All this because two people love wine! 🍷🍷 -
