I am currently in an interim position with Taunton Deane Borough Council in a Business Finance Partner role for their Transformation and Growth Programme initiatives. My remit is to support the programme by providing commercially based business cases and financial advice to determine whether or not the Council should be investing is specific projects. These currently include investments in a 120 room hotel, the refurbishment of Taunton Railway Station, a rebuilding a town centre site to include business and residential use, a light Industrial development in Minehead, and possible loan financing to improve local sporting facilities. As these projects come on stream I am responsible for monitoring and reporting the costs. I use Excel extensively.

It includes generating packages to increase occupancy and interfacing on a daily basis with guests.During our tenure here I have• Increased occupancy using strategic alliances and targeted advertising, mostly online.• Increased revenue per utilized room (REVPUR).• Taken control of the cost base and reduced costs by continuously reviewing suppliers pricing• Renovated the Victorian property to modernize it while maintaining the Country House ‘feel’• Continuously interface with customers and we have TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence for 2012 to 2016, a 4 star AA Guest Accommodation rating, and a TravelZoo Top rated 2016.

• Directed and coordinated the complex financial affairs of the sole telecommunications provider in the Bahamas which operates in thirteen (13) locations as a service provider and retailer. Initially employed as Deputy Chief Financial officer and promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2006. The department consisted of circa 100 staff.• At this time the company did not have a budget so I led the effort to produce a budget. • Prepared annual strategic plans, implemented operation-based revenue budgeting, reviewed operating expense budgets, forecast capital expenditure levels, and produced budgeted balance sheets and cash flows. • Reviewed Industrial Agreements with labour unions.• Attended and presented to Board of Directors meetings and the Audit and Pension Committees.• Interfaced with external and internal auditors, banks, and Government shareholder representatives as required.Achievements include:• Managed the finance department to a clean audit opinion within 2 years of taking up the position. Responsible for producing the statutory financial statements.• I used Excel extensively.• Finance lead on the implementation of the PeopleSoft fully integrated Financial Management System to replace the legacy financial accounting system. • Revised KPI reporting to incorporate operational traffic data, trend subscriber levels and ARPU.• Continuously reviewed collection activities• Strengthened the cash position of the Company from US$7.7 million to US$135 million, allowing for substantial dividend payments to the shareholder.• Implemented BTC’s self insurance scheme to significantly reduce insurance premiums by self funding large deductibles with catastrophic excess cover, with resulting emphasis on improved Risk Management• Acted as Finance Lead for the detailed due diligence exercise conducted by KPMG when the Bahamas Government sought to privatize BTC. A majority shareholding was bought by Cable & Wireless Communications in April 2011.
