As a Painter , Story teller ,and Teaching artist Wright uses every opportunity to create as a way to uplift all the voices, people and elevate his community.Paul believes art chose him. At his preschool, St John The Baptist Paul remembered seeing the process of a local artist group completing a mural on his playground and thinking, “that’s exactly what I want to do.” After that, art became his compass. Years later, he joined that same organization, called Young Aspirations Young Artists(YA/YA), where he began to design 2D and 3D work. He's been working with YA/YA for the last 14 years designing and producing murals and furniture and working closely with my community. Concurrently to his membership in the organization, Wright graduated from the acclaimed high school, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in 2012. Wright has had residencies and exhibited work at the Joan Mitchell Center Artist in Residence, the Guggenheim Museum,SVA Galleries, Adobe Creative Residency , the African American Museum in New Orleans, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery, Sheila C. Johnson Design Center and 5 Press Gallery. Wright was active in the YAYA guild 2007-2012. He served as a mentor and studio assistant at YAYA, which included the responsibility of designing and executing major projects. He saw the connection as a creative partnership that gave him a chance to give back to a community that raised him.Since then, Paul has been an artist-in-residence at Cow House Studios in Wexford, Ireland and the Joan Mitchell Foundation in New Orleans. Art has given him purpose and a voice and has made him an outstanding member of his community.He has served as a mentor and studio assistant at YA/YA, which included the responsibility of planning, designing, and executing major projects. He always saw the connection as a creative partnership because it gave him a chance to give back to a community that raised him as a kid. Wright received his MFA at the School of Visual Arts 21’and his BFA at Parsons The New School for Design 19’. He currently works as a freelance muralist, collaborating and completing four major projects in the last year with companies such as Vidmob, Spotify Resorts World Casino, Lionsgate and Nola Station.
