The MARKUP project aims to contribute to the economic development of the EAC region. The specific objective is to improve market access to EU and the East African region for five EAC partner countries (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) agro-industrial crop and horticultural sectors – avocado, cocoa, coffee, spices.Scope of Work• Design, develop and pilot data collection tools and methodologies that meet the requirements of UN baseline dataset.• Collect and validate management and financial data of Small & Medium coffee Enterprises (SME) in Kenya and develop their baseline information profile.• Conduct analytics of the processes and operations of the SMEs participating in study and prepare a report on suitability for trainings

Eco Fuels Kenya is a start-up company that utilizes the nuts of Croton megalocarpus tree to extract biodiesel and cosmetic oil. The nuts are collected from smallholder farm units across the country.Scope of work• Develop a supply chain model for croton nuts from smallholder farmers without the intervention of middlemen using a digital platform to track collection, consolidation and delivery to the factory.• Design and pilot implementation of a model that will enhance the quality of Croton nuts through shifting focus from children based collection system through middlemen to a farmer-to-factory system• Collaborate with Quality department to develop quality parameters that meet the requirement for emerging markets of cosmetic oil.

• Develop Internal Management System to guide the operation and processes of the organization to meet the requirement for certification to Fairtrade, UTZ and Rainforest Alliance standards.• Train and capacity building of staff on the requirement of voluntary sustainability standards and the implementation process.

• • Develop program models for smallholder supply-chains to meet end-buyer market requirements such as women grown coffee, youth coffee and certified coffees.• Perform analysis of management and financial processes of cooperative societies and develop intervention strategies to align productivity targets to supply agreements and executing plans to sustain export volumes.• Design and implement programs funded by Dutch government to have smallholder farmers and their cooperatives certified to sustainability standards of Rainforest, UTZ and Fairtrade in collaboration with a Dutch based NGO-Solidaridad.• Manager of Quality Management System(QMS) of Kofinaf company operations to ensure development and maintenance of ISO 9001, and Environmental Standards.

• Responsible for developing trials protocol of various fertilizers and pesticides of interest and determine their efficacy and cost effectiveness.• Liaise with Coffee Research Institute (CRI) on trials of Batian coffee variety to manage the trial site and to collect and disseminate trail data.• Manage coffee and tree nursery to meet production to cover annual replanting program and external customer orders• Managing land preparation, planting-out and maintenance of forest stands.

• Organized local communities to form groups for conservation of public land.• Assisted in organization and registration of Community Forest Associations(CFA).• Trained organized groups establish & manage tree nurseries.• Trained Agroforestry practices to organized local groups.• Involved in mapping degraded public forest land and analyze their suitability for tree planting.• Performed Carbon Credit baseline surveys in public forests.
