Paul Oakley is a chartered Architect and named by the BRE as a “World leading expert in BIM”. He has over 30+ years’ industry experience of implementing transformational change using information technology such as Computer Aided Design and Building Information modelling. Paul helped establish the principles of Avanti embedded in BS1192:2007 and now the international requirements of ISO 19650 as information management. Previously he had driven change through large International Architectural practices by implementing BS1192:2007 and PAS 1192-2:2013. More recently, Paul has travelled the world implementing the principles of ISO 19650 and supported global adoption, writing standards and guidance for Hong Kong CIC, Brazil DEPEN projects and the Irish Digital Construction Pack.Paul has been involved in many industry CAD / BIM initiatives over the last twenty years including the ADT Community group, Teamwork 2000, Avanti, Chair and Director of AUGIuk, the BIM Community, buildingSMART UKI & buildingSMART International, as well as sitting on CPIC committees, the CIC BIM Forum, etc...Paul is a member of the British Standards Institute (BSI) B/555 Committee and sits as an Industry expert, relating to BIM on standards such as BS 1192:2007, PAS 1192-2, BS 8541 Parts 1 to 4, as well as ISO 19650. He also represents the BSI at CEN and ISO committee level on ISO/TC 59/SC 13/WG 13, ISO/TC 59/SC 13/WG 6. and ISO/TC 10/SC 08/WG 18. Here he covers data dictionaries, IFC, Information management and Construction documentation.For 16 years, Paul has been Director of his consultancy and training business, Oakley CAD Services Ltd. The focus always being improving workflows for clients, designers, engineers, and contractors and providing services relating like CAD / BIM standards, guidance, methods, processes, implementation, training, software support, software application development and change management. More recently the focus has been on supporting industry standards across the world and delivering structured data approaches for digital transformation.For six years, up till June 2020, Paul headed the BIM Division at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) , responsible for the technical delivery of the BRE Academy BIM training programme, the BIM certification schemes delivered under the BRE Certification mark, BIM Advisory Services and BIM research projects.
