As ER Manager I was accountable for 3,600 employees across the Hovis business; my position covered the whole of the UK and dealt with Manufacturing, Logistics and central functions. I worked closely with the two Heads of HR as well as Site HRM’s and collaborated on generalist HR issues and central projects. I was the dedicated support for all central “Heads of Department” and supported with HR/people issues. I worked with HoD’s to develop their teams; recruitment, performance management, staff development and change.• Supported the Head of HR in developing and delivering an efficient and effective HR function in line with Hovis Limited processes and procedures.• Created and fostered an ER climate and actively championed employee involvement activities to ensure a two-way communication between employees, Trade Unions and the company.• Provided accurate and legally compliant HR advice to local site teams on all aspects of employee relations• Delivered training to sites including management development, policy and procedures, employee development• Worked collaboratively and supported the HR function across the Hovis network with complex ER issues and attend UK bakery, logistic and milling sites as required.• Lead/supported the implementation of site specific and UK wide HR change activities including restructuring, standardisation initiatives. Contributed in the scoping and definition of such activities• Maintained strong relationships with HR Managers whilst delivering change activity• Ensured that all issues were resolved, complying with UK legislation and in accordance with policies and procedures.

As the HRM I was part of the Site Senior Management Team and supported the Site Director in managing the local people and engagement agenda. Working closely with the three Union groups on site, handled pay negotiations, dispute resolution whilst dealing with the day to day challenges on site. Initially site head count was 533 when I started in April 2011 but following significant change in the business a number of projects were established to restructure with a view to moving the business forward. I lead the two biggest head count projects at Wigan in 2014 and 2015 resulting in 158 job losses. As one of two members of the Management Consultation team, we delivered the projects on budget, on time and agreed the business proposal with our biggest union group within 24 hours of announcing the change.• Responsible for the daily delivery of an effective HR function at Hovis Wigan and Bradford. (625 employees)• Advises and coach the Site Director(s) and Site Logistics Manager(s) in key people decisions ensuring ethical and legal compliance whilst aligning site objectives and the Hovis HR strategy• As part of the Site Leadership Team, supports the effective delivery of the logistics/baking/milling business plans at Hovis Wigan and Bradford• Provide coaching and support to line managers to enable them to proactively manage issues and develop their ER skills• Attend regular weekly and monthly site management meetings to deliver HR related training and updates • Effectively coach and manage a team of HR professionals enabling them to deliver on department and business KPI’s as well as ensuring local administration systems are up-to-date and fully compliant with legal and company standards

• Managed case load of over 110 private sector business owner and director clients per annum, converted prospects into customers and managed ongoing relationships to achieve 100% customer satisfaction rating.• Undertook balance scorecard diagnostics with all clients to identify current performance and opportunities for business improvement.• Worked in partnership with clients to understand their business challenges and identify effective solutions• Supported and guided clients with a range of employee relations and employment law issues.• Selected as Employee Council Representative to support implementation of policies and procedures, supported a 60% organisational downsizing, and acted as main contact for colleagues with specific employee relations enquiries.

• Managed key client accounts (spend over £100k per month) to ensure service levels and quality exceeded expectations and maximised business with the client.• Collated staff sales figures and staff bookings on a weekly basis in order to produce timesheets, salaries and monitor performance.• Developed brand and market awareness e.g. production of sales literature, website and company stationery.

• Advised and guided client companies in the implementation of strategies to achieve Investors in People and ISO accreditations.• Supported clients in the articulation of vision & values, creation of business development plans, solution of HR issues and communication with their workforce.• Supported clients with their organisational change processes/projects playing close attention to business priorities whist also managing the emotional impact of change to employees.• Worked closely with colleagues across all areas of the business to achieve personal, team and company objectives by cross referring to group and partner services.

• Tendered and secured contracts worth £600,000 per annum to deliver high quality leaning and recruitment provision for Bolton employers and young apprentices.• Effectively coached, managed and developed a team of Training Officers and Admin staff and achieved contract targets.• Liaised with funding bodies to assure contractual and financial performance and projected forward requirements for future funding. • Liaised with employers from across the borough to deliver a bespoke training service, resulting in the creation of over 400 jobs for young people..• Pastoral support and assessment for 75+ learners at any one time in the achievement of their modern apprenticeship and NVQ qualifications.• Project managed the Employer Training Pilot adult programme worth £90,000.
