One niche aspect of my skillset that I'm proud of is my ability to communicate with the Death and Hard of Hearing community. During the 2021-'22 school year I began supporting secondary students with deafness and hard of hearing in a general education high school math class in Indio CA. This eye-opening experience quickly became a special chapter in education for me; it remains so today. This small group of learners led to two years of my immersion in the deaf community and their culture. I learned basic ASL at Glendale (CA) Community College, co-taught SAI math in a DHH Special Education classroom, and last but most special - was given a sign name by the students. This is an honor within the deaf and hard of hearing community. Only they can name hearing-abled people.
