    Throughout the summer of 2009 and 2010, I worked as โ€œHead Bartenderโ€, for the most exclusive Private Memberโ€™s Club on the East Coast of the United States, โ€œThe Boathouseโ€. With two locations on the island of Marthaโ€™s Vineyard, its membership is over 300 of some of the most affluent, wealthy and recognizable people in the world. I was the Head Bartender for the Field Club location of the Boathouse. Through this position I learned invaluable lessons as to how the service industry is run in the United States. I was also provided with extensive training in Wine knowledge (particularly Italian wines), as well as cocktail training. As I was the primary bartender there I had to manage stock controls, as well as quality control in regard to the drinks I prepared. I was also regularly left in charge of the floor staff, and provided them with direction and assistance when needed. I also learnt a great deal about event organisation and preparation. The extremely high levels of quality service in the Boathouse really kept me on my feet and helped me to gain an acute awareness of how to make a memberโ€™s stay as enjoyable as possible. I felt I was a very likeable and responsible employee, and forged lasting friendships with many of the members of the Club and their families.Emergency/crisis management:It also gave me some experience in the field of โ€˜crisis managementโ€™, as the day before a very costly wedding was to be held at the Field Club location, Hurricane Earl hit the island and flooded/destroyed 75% of our stock for the afore-mentioned wedding. I spent 16 hours in a sewage- flooded basement, salvaging what I could in terms of stock, while making quick decisions about how to ensure we obtained enough stock to get us through drink orders, and to obtain enough glassware for the event. After 2 long days of work, the Wedding was deemed a total success, despite the disastrous previous days. My efforts were very highly regarded by the management of โ€œThe Boathouseโ€.
