Paul trained with the British Steel Corporation where he worked for 7 years before he moved on. He joined BP in 1981. After 18 years in industry he joined Gwalia as the Management Accountant in 1992, when Gwalia had a turnover of £3.7m, 2400 units, 182 staff and loans of £6m. Today Gwalia has income of approx. £70m, 10,000 units and over 2,700 units of care (non-accommodation), employs 1400 staff and a loan portfolio of £270m.Paul is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and has received an award for his services to the Institute (CIMA). He was branch treasurer for over 14 years and has held the office of Branch Vice President and Branch President. For almost 10 years Paul organised a business game for schools and colleges with sixth form students, in three counties from Port Talbot to Aberystwyth. In addition he organised revision courses for CIMA students (and occasionally ACCA students). Since joining Gwalia in 1992 Paul has covered the Treasury Management function and has played a leading part in arranging all the loans included in Gwalia’s current loan portfolio. He was the lead financial officer in Wales first Private Placement of £35m with The Pensions Insurance Corporation on behalf of Gwalia, completed October 2013.
