As an independent mediator, arbitrator and barrister the successful resolution of conflicts is my sole focus. I work mainly in the area of commercial disputes: from landlord/tenant issues through to international disputes involving multi-parties and complex issues.Conflict cannot be avoided. Conflict is often necessary for growth and for change. Arguably we need more conflict of this nature not less. The challenge is how we deal with the conflicts we face. Do we fight or do we run? Far better instead that we initially meet, talk, exchange ideas and explore what is possible by way of resolution. If third party determination is required then arbitration is an excellent forum (domestically and internationally) in which that can occur effectively.As an arbitrator and mediator I draw upon 26 years’ experience as a commercial barrister in global litigation markets to help parties have better conversations about their particular dispute. I also call upon the business experience I have (away from the law) working as CEO or an independent director in a diverse range of international companies including the marine industry, global health care and international freight.I have also worked as a receiver of insolvent companies (ranging from the superyacht market through to failed finance companies) which has allowed me to experience first-hand the complex range of issues that arise when dealing with disputes involving commercial insolvency.Even the 8 years I spent flying as a navigator in the RNZAF has given me a deeper understanding of international conflict.
