Working within the education framework supporting young people in schools who are on the verge of being permanently excluded and in some cases being placed on a care order. My role was to evaluate the level of need of the young person within the school and to ensure that were accessing any assessments and funding needed so that they may achieve academically in school. I would also work with the young person’s family to ensure that the young person’s home life was not impacting on his/her schooling. I gave family support and guidance where needed. I have been key in many safeguarding and child protection conferences as i have raised concerns of abuse to children's social care.Often I would call multi agency meeting as many of these families had many agencies working with them. This was to focus all agencies to work together and be held accountable for services supplied. I would ensure that files were kept up-to date and accurate. I would often work out of every school in the Yeovil area building up a good relationship with teaching staff and heads. My job role was crucial given that many young people fall off the radar of the authorities and become much disenfranchised with the education system as a whole. Often I would broker deals with Academies to set up a holistic package of education around these young people as it was more about their self-esteem than academic attainment. Often these young people would end up in Pupil referral units or specialist EBD independent schools. Some young people needed to be statement for special educational needs and often had not had the assessments needed many years ago for ASD. Therefore have suffered throughout the education system as there learning needs have not been picked up.
