A policy manager at Cotton Australia is responsible for managing the development of policy programs to ensure Australia’s cotton growers benefit from government policy developments. They also ensure that the strategic objectives of the organisation are fulfilled. The policy manager also oversees the production of policy positions, as well as the organisations campaign and advocacy work. Through this position I have established extensive relationships with governmental representatives and Members of Parliament. • Initiate and develop strategic policies that guide program and service development to address the needs of Australia’s cotton growers and manage and undertake policy projects to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of service delivery and inform policy development.• Engage and consult with key stakeholders to identify emerging issues and develop solutions that support sound policy decisions and approaches.• Provide leadership, guidance, support and a point of contact for business unit staff on Cotton industry policies that impact business unit operations.• Deliver on multifaceted policy projects and processes within agreed upon deadlines and quality standards.• Support and contribute to work planning and resource alignment. • Liaise and work across Cotton Australia’s divisions and non-government stakeholders to ensure effective interface between policy development, program development, planning, service design and policy implementation. • Work effectively with team members towards mutual continued development and to provide feedback to each other on policy research and analysis undertaken.

The position of Regional Manager involves communicating Cotton Australia and cotton industry policies and programs to individual cotton growers and Cotton Grower Associations, and in turn communicating feedback and issues requiring attention to Cotton Australia management and other organisation teams (eg. Policy Team). Cotton Australia also provides grower led research direction advice to the Cotton Research and Development Corporation and Regional Manager will work with growers and Grower Associations to give feedback on research through the General Meetings of Cotton Australia and the Research Panels that are formed around key research areas.• Actively demonstrate the benefits to growers of supporting Cotton Australia through their voluntary bale levy. Result lifted participation from 70% - 80%• Driving uptake, use and participation in the cotton industries best management practice program called myBMP.
