Tate & Lyle Sugars is the leading cane sugar producer in the European Union. The business was acquired by American Sugar Refining (ASR) in 2010, bringing ASR's total refining capacity worldwide to 6 million metric tons per year.I was appointed to set up a new legal function following acquisition. I am a key member of the executive leadership team, and I was appointed Company Secretary of T&L Sugars and a director of T&L Sugars Death Benefits Trustees, Tate & Lyle Sugars and T&L Norway.In this role, I advise on commercial, reputational and legal matters affecting the group, including corporate, commercial, compliance, company secretarial, risk, property, food law, IP and litigation issues.Select Achievements:o Recruited a number of Commercial Lawyers and grew the legal function to a team of four. I introduced KPIs to ensure timely responses to requests for legal advice, cementing the team as business advisers. o Negotiated a number of cross-border corporate transactions.o Organised competition and compliance law training for the EU sales & marketing teams. o Won a successful multi-million claim, designing the litigation strategy and instructing external counsel. o Closed a loss-making business unit in Europe, ensuring key employees were retained and advising on options for divesture or voluntary liquidation. o Ensured continuing compliance in response to legislative changes, such as the Bribery Act, the Modern Slavery Act and Data Protection.

I provided pro bono legal and commercial advice to the Stratford Arts Trust during its transition to an independent entity with charitable status. Select Achievements:o The project required detailed and strategic leadership to enable the establishment of a new company with charitable status. The primary objective was and is to ensuring Stratford Circus remains an accessible hub for creativity for future generations of artists and audiences in east London.o Utilised professional and legal skills to support the creation of a clear strategy, negotiate the right outcomes and script the detailed processes that are required to keep the business on an upward trajectory. o Ensured the project was completed on time and under budget and supported the leverage of match funding. o Subsequently appointed Trustee and Company Director. I was also awarded East London Business Alliance’s 2011 Individual Volunteer of the Year and Overall Volunteer of the Year in recognition of the successful work for the Stratford Arts Trust.

As ESAB's Legal Director & Company Secretary and Head of Legal of Charter Plc, I provided a broad range of legal advice to the organisation globally. I advised the board and senior managers, participated in board meetings, managed the legal team, addressed corporate, commercial, compliance and litigation issues and dealt with day to day legal matters.Select Achievements:o Initially appointed as Head of Legal, I oversaw restructure of a team that was previously flat and suffering from reduced workflow and duplication.o In order to lessen delays in workflow (caused by everything having to go through one person) and improve management, I appointed two lawyers as senior lawyers and set up sub teams.

During this time, I provided legal advice to Siemens Energy Services and led the UK corporate legal team.I also gave advice on M&A projects and reorganisations throughout Siemens UK while offering day-to-day legal advice on commercial contracts, pensions, litigation and other general legal issues.
