In this role I cover the local dining scene in a small but vibrant coastal tourist destination. I write a weekly restaurant column that follows openings and closings, menu changes, chef buzz and other points of interest to our readers who love to eat out. I also produce trend, ingredient, equipment and recipe-based features for the home cooks that read both our print and digital products. We are an online first publication, which means we might build an entire print package around a fun video idea or multiple stories to flesh out a database project. It also means managing a suite of social media pages and profiles, regularly contributing to our food blog and keeping the editorial staff's digital budget updated down to the hour to promote fresh content.And because no good deed goes unpunished, the topic of health care was added to my plate earlier this year. I can now tell my readers how to give themselves high blood pressure and exactly what to do to correct it. What can I say. I'm one of those suckers who still loves the do-more-with-less world of daily newspapering.

I joined the staff of the StarNews as a print photojournalist. The duties of that role gradually evolved as the newspaper landscape shifted to an online enterprise. I was among the last wave of shooters to process 35mm film on deadline, but eagerly embraced what was called "multimedia" back in the day. Photo galleries gave way to audio productions, eventually leading to video work. Whatever the format, visually documenting the community's news with an eye toward the history, culture and landscape our readers love was and continues to be a passion.
