The division keeps operational 21,000 railroad route miles in 22 states in order to transport coal, industrial products and freight. As part of the Pocahontas Sub-Division, performed track inspections and maintenance on line of road and yard locations in Bluefield (WV), Pikeville (KY), and Roanoke (VA). Worked with on site engineers and construction teams on the Fort Hamer bridge build out. The project encompassed the construction of a two-lane bridge extending approximately 2,300 feet across the Manatee River, paved bike lanes, improved shoulders and sidewalks. Worked every aspect of the job including pouring the footers, columns, caps, beam seats, and deck. Learned how to survey and gained the trust of the surveyor to set up equipment throughout the project. Calculated work completed by vendors to issue payments. Observed and helped with the AutoCAD drawings of the bridge.
