A lifelong high-school mathematics teacher and coach, with additional licensing in political science, psychology and historical perspectives, I am passionate about creating relationships to promote growth. As my school district grew increasingly diverse, I attained a Masters of Arts in English Language Learning and added the corresponding license to my teaching license. To me, it is not about the content, it is about the people. I spent nearly a decade as a teacher's union representative, as well. I discussed building-level concerns with other members, tried to find solutions in the immediate, and then met monthly with building leaders to discuss building-wide concerns. This was a very rewarding position. I began to appreciate the push/pull between levels of management. Perspective is one of the most difficult things to teach. Being able to see both sides of conflict added a new dimension to my conflict resolution abilities. As both a teacher and a coach, conflict resolution is a pre-requisite. Ask any coach or teacher and they will tell you relationship building is the most important aspect of both professions. Truthfully, I do not see coaching and teaching as different occupations, but understand why people may. Personally, I fell in love with the science behind defensive football. I was, and still am, fascinated with the immense importance of the smallest details when coaching an entire defensive unit. So, while I am in the classroom it does not matter what I teach. I just enjoy building relationships and helping kids find success in an academic environment. However, it was the nuance that fascinated me with coaching defense. Studying oppenents, identifying tendencies, finding weaknesses are things that I found enthralling. The objective of putting together a plan of action week after week, trying to highlight your team's strengths, while taking away your opponent's, and all while knowing how to get a group of young men on the same page is quite the challenge.Spent 4 years as the Vice-President of the Falcon Youth Football League (the district youth football league dissolved and our staff built a new one for all the young footballers in our district). I coached the coaches of the teams on scheme, taught player safety, oversaw youth coaches certification requirements, and helped the head coach with any other assigned duties. Another opportunity for perspective teaching football to adults instead of kids.
