I interfaced with sales staff to design custom electronics to meet the needs of customers. Initial Concept - Schematic Capture - PCB Design - Embedded Programming - Documentation for in-house manufacturing process - Everything in-between Brands served include Best Buy, Samsung, Polk, Klipsch, Roomba, etc.. This was an incredibly rewarding position which placed me working on a large array of products alongside a group of very talented and genuine people.

I was initially hired at Audio Authority for schematic capture and PCB layout of new products designed by the lead engineer. These months provided me the chance to focus on this one area of my craft, but I was glad to have been promoted to a Design Engineer shortly after hire.

After my co-op year at customKYnetics I returned to school to finish my degree which moved me to part time. During this period of work, I developed a sensor board that was attached to shoe laces and a control system that would determine different phases of walking gait in patients with foot drop. This device would then send triggers to a muscle stimulator that contracted muscle groups to cause plantar flexion or dorsiflexion in time with the gait cycle. During one clinical evaluation study at the University of Delaware I watched a 21-year old stroke survivor who suffered from foot drop use this prototype. I was just one year older. If not for my time at customKYnetics I would not have been marketable for the position I moved into upon graduating from UK. It provided me with knowledge and skills that I use most days presently.

I participated in the University of Kentucky's Cooperative Education Program. Co-op students typically work at a company every other semester in class-work rotations. I started a co-op with customKYnetics in the spring intending to work through the summer and return to school in the fall, but my project involvement meant shifting my rotation around to enable me to work full-time for all of 2012.I did a lot of LabVIEW programming, made cable assemblies, completed my first PCB layout, hand populated a number of prototypes, etcThis year cleared up any doubt I might have had about my area of study-- I found that I enjoyed the work and had a boost of confidence finding that I was good at it.
