About Paul Wagner
Paul Wagner studied Optical Technology and Image Processing at the University of Applied Science Darmstadt, Germany. In the year 2012 he graduated with a B.Sc. degree, his Bachelor Thesis “Development and characterization of Fiber Bragg Gratings” was performed in cooperation with Industrial Research Ltd. in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. He continued the study and received the M.Sc. degree in 2014. His Master Thesis “Laser-induced contamination on high-reflective optics” was performed at the German Aerospace Center in Stuttgart, Germany. Between 2014 and 2022 he was part of the Laser-based space debris monitoring project in the Institute of Technical Physics at the German Aerospace Center in Stuttgart, Germany. As optical engineer he constructed, setup and operated several ground stations for satellite laser ranging. In April 2022 he obtained his Doctor of Engineering Sciences from the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Stuttgart with the thesis “Ground-Based Autonomous Passive-Optical Staring Sensor for Orbital Object Detection and Position Measurement”. Since August 2022 he is the Optical Ground Station system engineer at the Institute of Communication and Navigation at the German Aerospace Center in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.
