The Royal Bournemouth And Christchurch Hospitals Nhs Foundation Trust Dec 2016 - Feb 2017

Following redundancy from previous employer, I worked a temporary contract back in the NHS.The primary role was to develop a native Android mobile phone app, and associated RESTful API, to provide notification and communication functionality to an internal medical system. The service had to be secure and integrate seamlessly with the medical system and existing IT infrastructure. All development had to be fully documented to a high degree, due to the nature of the contract, ensuring that development could continue should the contract be discontinued.
  • Bluerock Solutions
    Project & Development Team Manager
    Bluerock Solutions Jun 2014 - Oct 2016
    Christchurch, Dorset, Gb
The Project & Development Team Manager was solely responsible for the delivery and operation of a multi million dollar secure medical app and backend services, for a San Francisco based medical startup. This involved the initial formation of an eight person development team, consisting of varied skill sets, from native app developers, PHP web application developers, testers and designers. Daily activities included liaising with the client to ensure that requirements were gathered, analysed and prioritised. Working with the senior developers to break down requirements into user stories, tasks, and scheduling into sprints. Continued monitoring of progress and team performance, communicating back to management and client, along with early identification of any problems. Resolution of issues and blocked tasks, to ensure that development was not impacted. Dealing with an eight hour time difference presented particular challenges, which required forward planning and thinking, along with good open lines of communication. Management of the development team, included task and time scheduling, issue, conflict and disciplinary resolution, appraisals and career development, mentoring, hiring and contract negotiations. After two years of direct management of the clients services, development and IT, there was a requirement to manage the transition of the IT to the clients newly formed in-house technical team in San Francisco. This required significant amounts of technical hand over, information gathering, documentation, scheduling, working closely with their new CTO, whilst continuing to progress now shared development via the two teams until handover was completed.Over the course of the two year project, we made an idea, into a live service, with 5 star rated native apps, allowing the client to secure several million dollars of VC funding, delivered on time, budget and to client requirements.
  • Mohc
    Senior Software Engineer
    Mohc Oct 2013 - Jun 2014
    Bournemouth, Dorset, Gb
The main responsibilities as a senior software engineer were to design and develop software based solutions for the company’s core high profile Medical system. Due to the nature of the system, and the highly sensitive personal medical information being processed, there was a requirement for an extremely high degree of accuracy, thought and due care taken in every aspect of design, development and implementation. Security of data, and ensuring information was being used appropriately, were all necessary considerations. Other duties also included visits to client offices for planning meetings, project breakdown, refinement and documentation.
  • Kondor Ltd
    Software Developer
    Kondor Ltd Apr 2009 - Oct 2013
    Christchurch, Dorset, Gb
Primary role was as the lead PHP developer for the company’s internal and externally facing systems. Design, architecture and systems analysis were also significant parts of the job, as well as providing leader- ship to the more junior developers in the team. Notable core business systems for which I was primarily responsible for developing and successfully delivering, were “eTailor Drop ship vendor” and “VMI”.The eTailor SOAP service replaced a slow and problematic legacy order system, into a realtime fast and efficient one. Able to take orders not only from the company’s website, it was also able to be used directly by customers own back office systems, vastly increasing speed and efficiency, whilst reducing costs. As well as taking orders, eTailor was able to provide realtime product information and stock availability for customers, allowing them to sell directly off their systems. Within 2 years, eTailor was handling all drop ship orders for the company’s customers, going from nothing to £4m+ per annum. The VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) system, directly controlled the company’s stock at O2’s distribution centres, and all 345 O2 branch stores. The system was able to monitor and provide reports on required stock replenishment requirements across the O2 retail chain, whilst being able to track in transit stock to and from stores. The system enabled greater control and efficiencies for both the company and O2 in managing their stock, and be- ing able to move to minimum stock levels in stores, reducing costs, while still ensuring sufficient availability.
  • Webpro-It
    Development Team Leader
    Webpro-It May 2007 - Apr 2009
The development team leader position required the liaising with clients to ensure their project requirements where gathered and fully understood. Converting these requirements into technical work streams and scheduling developers onto tasks. Management of team members was part of the role, to ensure any issues where addressed, professional career development needs were identified and plans created, as well as any disciplinary issues. As the team was relatively small, an additional key element of the position was to be an active member of the development team, participating in coding and guiding development, system architecture, infrastructure and implementing standards across the team.
  • Borough Of Poole
Unix / Dba / Edms Support Technician
Borough Of Poole Jul 2004 - May 2007
    Gb
Reporting to the UNIX/DBA/Web team leader. The primary role was the implementation, development and support of the councils new electronic document management system. The ability to analyse and gather requirements from various departments was key to the role, along with defining and implementing a suit- able electronic document structure to meet departmental needs. Using the software development skills and experience gained previously, I was able to write a program to import all the previously scanned documents (some 40,000) for Poole housing partnership into the EDMS at no additional cost to the council, something the document management supplier had quoted a significant amount of money and time to do. This required metadata and image processing, along with a deep understanding of the document management system. Other duties included UNIX and database administration, providing cover where required to the UNIX/DBA team and the business critical systems that the team were responsible for.

Reporting to the Computer Systems Manager, with responsibilities for the day to day running of the patient critical UNIX and Linux systems. System maintenance, user administration, configuration, system security and performance tuning were just some of the daily tasks. Strong documentation skills were required for creating and maintaining key policy and procedure documents. Additional duties were the development and running of the trusts web site and intranet for which I taught myself PHP in my own time. The development of an automated submission system for key trust financial commissioning data, a server monitoring and SMS alert system, are just a couple of the developments which resulted in significant benefits and cost savings to the trust. The position also required the individual to be on call out of normal office hours as part of a rota system, for any urgent issues which may have arisen.
  • Royal Bournemouth Hospital
    Computer Network Technician
Royal Bournemouth Hospital Sep 1998 - Feb 2001
    Bournemouth, Dorset, Gb
Reporting to the Network Manager, with responsibilities for the day to day running of the hospitals computer network, and network attached devices. Due to the small size of the department, there was a requirement to provide desktop support to over 1000 users of varying degrees of competency. Server builds, installations, performance monitoring and tuning, system configuration and large scale domain administration were all part of the role. Whilst in the position there was the opportunity to participate in the selection pro- cess for the hospitals new network infrastructure, working closely with potential suppliers and the Network Manager to ensure the right solution and provider was awarded the contract. The position also required the individual to be on call out of normal office hours as part of a rota system, for any urgent issues which may have arisen.
