As the leader of the Glasgow Biomarker Research Unit (GlasBRU) at the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, I spearhead groundbreaking research in the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and healthy ageing. My specialization lies in biomarker studies, with a deep focus on cardiac biomarkers like NT-proBNP and high sensitivity troponin.My team at GlasBRU is adept in conducting a broad spectrum of assays on blood, urine, and saliva samples, ranging from routine clinical biochemistry to advanced specialized tests. Our collaborative efforts have significantly contributed to pivotal observational studies such as the British Regional Heart Study and Generation Scotland, as well as key clinical trials including DAPA-HF and T-TIME.I'm proud to have been an active participant in the UK Biobank project, contributing to our understanding of biomarkers and their implications. My publication record exceeds 300 papers, rwith an H-index over 60, underscoring my influence in the field.In my role as deputy postgraduate convenor at the School, and as a FLIER (cohort 3) at the Academy of Medical Sciences, I am committed to nurturing the next generation of medical researchers.
