I am starting a new role as an Academic Coordinator. I have worked an interest in all aspects of English language teaching and management. I am passionate about finding innovative approaches for engaging learners in lessons in whether online, hybrid or face-to-face modes. I enjoy participating in action research, collaborating with colleagues on projects and contributing to professional development programs. Prior to teaching, I was a Youth Worker and coordinated programs for Newly Arrived and Migrant Youth in Australia. Throughout my career, I have supported students both during and outside of class, identifying and providing opportunities for learning experiences that address individual needs, counseling those identified as 'at-risk' and applying humanistic methods to achieve holistic aims.I have taught in a range of contexts from drama classes for teenagers, AAS (Australia Awards Scholarship) students, private lessons to a Vietnamese Colonel and PhD candidates. I have experience teaching students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. I have developed syllabus, assessment and materials for Academic, Business and General English programs. I am a very competent user of educational technology using Moodle, Teams, Zoom, Google Drive and other online tools or platforms that add variety and achieve educational goals efficiently and effectively. I have administered and designed assessments independently, and instituted changes in the use of diagnostic testing to increase validity and reliability. I was the Chair of the TESOL Talks Committee in HCMC and have played a significant role in planning and coordinating TESOL events. I have also contributed to professional development by delivering presentations and mentoring new colleagues in the development of in-service workshops and local/regional conferences.More recently, I have been involved in initiatives with English Australia including the Action Research SIG, CPD Framework Review Project and Professional Development Committee in Melbourne. I participated in the Action Research Program led by Anne Burns (UNSW). I have presented at UECA, NEAS and English Australia conferences events on a range of topics from transformational leadership, collaborative approaches for online learning and Academic Integrity, for example.
