About Paul Wright
I am a nationally (U.K.) qualified youth and community worker with over seventeen years experience of working with community, fifteen of which have been within a leadership role. I have worked on a variety of different projects including externally funded programmes, detached (street based youth work), centre based and outdoor education based. A previous role included managing the largest and most complex youth zone for the County Council with over 50,000 people through its doors each year. Its main focus and a high proportion of the work carried out at the centre was youth based but we also delivered community based programmes offering recreation, education and health and wellbeing opportunities to community. Colleagues know me as an organised, hardworking, confident and passionate leader. I build trust, respect and rapport with peers, colleagues and community.I hold a nationally recognised Youth Work post graduate degree as well as a Leisure Management degree. Most recently, I completed my ILM Level 5 in Leadership and Management. I relocated to Adelaide in early 2017 and took up the position of Senior Youth Officer at City of Onkaparinga before moving to Team Leader Youth in January 2018. In May 2019, I commenced the role of Team Leader Community Development, leading four areas of work, eight community centres and a team of 34 Community Development Officers and Project Officers. In May 2021, I commenced in the Manager Community Capacity role, leading over 500 staff and volunteers across ageing, disability, youth, arts, reconciliation, cultural diversity and community development. I led the Youth team to achieve a National Economic Development Australia award for Community Collaboration in late 2018, awarded LG South Australia Emerging Leader of the Year 2019 and the national Australian LG Emerging Leader of the Year 2019 award.

Sessions included targeted group work sessions, open youth club sessions, sport sessions, SEN groups and girls and boys sessions. I also held a caseload of young people working 1-1 with young people around issues such as drug and alcohol use, emotional wellbeing, self confidence and self esteem, resilience and school attendance.Successes included leading a group of young people on a community expedition to India, creating opportunities for young people to improve their career prospects and supporting a hard to reach young person on an international opportunity through The Journey of a Lifetime Trust.
District Duke Of Edinburgh Coordinator
Whilst continuing in my main role as Senior Youth Officer, I coordinated the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme across the Hyndburn district of Lancashire covering six secondary schools, one private school and Young Peoples Service. The role included introducing new schools to the award, supporting them with setting up the award and ensuring that policy and procedures were followed when delivering the award. Achievements included organising large scale presentation events (200+ guests and VIPs) each year at a special Duke of Edinburgh award showcase.
Charity Manager
Whilst continuing in my main role as Senior Youth Officer, I managed a small charity with a turnover of over £200k (approx. $340k) reporting directly to a board of Directors; the role included managing staff, volunteers, resources, facilities and budgets within a large youth and community centre at the heart of the community.The role included setting and managing the budget, ensuring that overall expenditure was reduced which was achieved by working hard with contractors and suppliers to reduce cost in these areas. The role also included managing two externally funded projects of £60k (approx. $98k).Achievements included managing payroll and accounts for four months whilst the finance officer was on long term sickness and reducing expenditure to increase profit and reduce budgeting issues.
School Duke Of Edinburgh Coordinator
Mostly in a volunteering capacity, I coordinated the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme in a busy high school. This included setting up the award and delivering Bronze and Silver awards across the full disciplines of physical, volunteering, skill and expeditions of the award. My role included working with teachers and support staff to develop their knowledge of the award to ensure pupils were fully supported through the award.Achievements included setting up the award and developing it over four years before handing delivery back to school to drive it forward with more resources and support from teachers. The school now delivers the bronze award to the full school year.
Youth Development Worker
Full time L3 Youth Development Worker following promotion from L1 part time worker in September 2006. I managed a team of seven people across two externally funded projects, Lancashire Children's Fund (LCF) and the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB). I managed budgets of over £100k with LCF focused on work with 8-13 year olds in a youth club setting. SRB was a new project which focused on working with young people on the streets in street based youth work across three of the most disadvantaged wards in Hyndburn. Both projects were extremely successful with all funding objectives met over the course of the projects.
