About Paul Wright

I am a nationally (U.K.) qualified youth and community worker with over seventeen years experience of working with community, fifteen of which have been within a leadership role. I have worked on a variety of different projects including externally funded programmes, detached (street based youth work), centre based and outdoor education based. A previous role included managing the largest and most complex youth zone for the County Council with over 50,000 people through its doors each year. Its main focus and a high proportion of the work carried out at the centre was youth based but we also delivered community based programmes offering recreation, education and health and wellbeing opportunities to community. Colleagues know me as an organised, hardworking, confident and passionate leader. I build trust, respect and rapport with peers, colleagues and community.I hold a nationally recognised Youth Work post graduate degree as well as a Leisure Management degree. Most recently, I completed my ILM Level 5 in Leadership and Management. I relocated to Adelaide in early 2017 and took up the position of Senior Youth Officer at City of Onkaparinga before moving to Team Leader Youth in January 2018. In May 2019, I commenced the role of Team Leader Community Development, leading four areas of work, eight community centres and a team of 34 Community Development Officers and Project Officers. In May 2021, I commenced in the Manager Community Capacity role, leading over 500 staff and volunteers across ageing, disability, youth, arts, reconciliation, cultural diversity and community development. I led the Youth team to achieve a National Economic Development Australia award for Community Collaboration in late 2018, awarded LG South Australia Emerging Leader of the Year 2019 and the national Australian LG Emerging Leader of the Year 2019 award.

Full time L3 Youth Development Worker following promotion from L1 part time worker in September 2006. I managed a team of seven people across two externally funded projects, Lancashire Children's Fund (LCF) and the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB). I managed budgets of over £100k with LCF focused on work with 8-13 year olds in a youth club setting. SRB was a new project which focused on working with young people on the streets in street based youth work across three of the most disadvantaged wards in Hyndburn. Both projects were extremely successful with all funding objectives met over the course of the projects.
