GRLOL is the company formed as part of W2R Project Lancashire operating household waste processing plants located at Thornton and Leyland, Lancashire built at a cost of £250 million This is a contract position for GRLOL mainly based at Thornton but covering both sites. I am providing EC&I support and wet commissioning services as part of a small team through acceptance testing.In addition the team also handles new improvement projects on both sites.

W2R Project Lancashire, Thornton, Lancashire

W2R (Waste to Resources) is a joint venture between AMEC Minproc & Bovis Lend Lease to build two household waste processing plants located at Thornton and Leyland, Lancashire at a cost of £250 millionThis was a contract position for Amec Minproc mainly based at Thornton. Initially dry commissioning of instrumentation, drives (Siemens Simocode & Sinamic VSD) ,Profibus DP & PA networks to a tight deadline and then as part of the ‘ramp up’ team providing EC&I support and wet commissioning services while bringing the plants up to design capacity and through acceptance testing.

S3JV (Stream 3 Joint Venture) was a joint venture between Veolia and Costain to extend the existing Mersey Valley Processing Centre with the addition of a third sludge incinerator and improved excess liquor treatment at a total cost of around £91 million.I was employed on a short term contract for Veolia, loop testing & commissioning of instrumentation, drives and Profibus DP & PA networks connected with the nitrate removal process.

St Helens, Merseyside

ATG were a subcontractor to KMI Plus which was a joint venture created to implement the United Utilities AMP4 investment program over 5 years (; ) to upgrade and provide new water & wastewater installations to comply with current legislation.ATG provided the design & supply & commissioning of the EC&I installations for a number of projects.I was employed to undertake all aspects of the design from quotation of the initial enquiries through to on site commissioning, including CAD, specification and requisitioning of materials and supervision of construction.Notable projects:Burnley WWTW : A £6.5 million project to upgrade an existing waste water treatment plant by improvements to the inlet screening works and installation of monitoring equipment to optimise mid stage treatment.Winwick WTW : A £6 million project to upgrade a previously ‘mothballed' water treatment plant which treated borehole water. This was achieved with the addition of a membrane filter plant, sand traps, improved chemical dosing plant and a UV treatment plant.Fleetwood WWTW : A £6.7 million project to upgrade the inlet screen works on an existing wastewater treatment plant. This was achieved by installation of 4 new screens. ATG provided new control panels for these screens. The existing Siemens S5 PLC was upgraded to S7 PLC's and this was completed with minimal disruption to the continuous process of treating the wastewater from the Fylde coast.

Leadrange Engineering were a framework contractor to United Utilities System Support (Telemetry Projects) during the AMP4 investment program 5 years (; ) to upgrade and provide new water & wastewater installations to comply with current legislation. They provided EC&I commissioning services for the regional telemetry scheme at sites as required. The services I provided were:Commissioning & end to end testing of IMACS 2000 & Dynamic Logic telemetry outstations.Commissioning & end to end testing of service reservoir security systems.Auditing of flow meter installations for major upgrade project.ATG EC&I Design / Project engineer (Staff

Previously A.T. Group Airports division, ATG Airports were contractors for the design, build & commissioning of PLC control systems specifically for airfield ground lighting systems. Notable Projects:Manchester Airport : A £5 million joint venture between ATG Airports & Siemens to provide the entire runway and taxiway lighting system for the new second runway, including all lighting fittings, replacement of 4 existing substation PLC panels and design & build of 2 new substation panels and replacement of the existing control tower control system.I was employed as part of a small team to design panels, supervise construction, assist in the software coding for the remote panels, testing of the whole system software on a simulation basis, testing of the SCADA system for compliance and then the whole system commissioning on site.Stansted Airport : Continued development on the AGL control system installed and commissioned by A.T. Group in; this included an extension to the PLC control system comprising of four additional panels. The panels were installed and integrated into the existing system & fully commissioned.

Intellect provided panel design, build and installation on small projects of varying costsI was employed to provide the design of electrical, instrumentation and PLC control systems from initial enquiry through to commissioning, including CAD, Requisitioning materials and supervising construction.

A.T. Group consisted of a number of different divisions each with its own area of expertise. I was initially employed by the general engineering group for Loop, I/O testing & commissioning at Bicester waste water treatment works, Oxford. I then moved into the Airports division where they had won a £1.3 million project to upgrade the entire runway and taxiway lighting control system at Stansted Airport to coincide with the building of a new control tower. The project involved replacement of 6 existing substation PLC panels and existing control tower control system.I was part of a small team employed to assist in the software coding for the new panels, testing of the whole system software on a simulation basis, testing of the SCADA system for compliance and then the whole system commissioning on site to a very tight deadline.

This involved coordinating all loop testing and basic commissioning work. Notable Projects:-Loxley W.T.W. Sheffield : New water treatment plant for Yorkshire Water.

Services were responsible for the installation, maintenance of small instrumentation and control projects mainly for the water industry and local councils. I was involved with all aspects of projects from surveying & preparing quotations to producing reports and completing electrical drawings (CAD system) as well as site work. As cover for holidays I would take full control of all projects & general running of the business.Notable Projects :North West Water Ltd :- Regional Telemetry scheme. Site installations and master station upgrades.Associated British Ports :-Immingham Docks. Control system for shipping navigation beacons utilising a radio telemetry link.

Employed as an apprentice in 1981 and completed in 1985. This included a 12 month off the job training at college. On completion of my apprenticeship I was involved in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of process control instrumentation working at remote locations, unsupervised. I was also on a standby rota for emergency breakdowns out of hours.
