African Americanist who researches long 20th century Black history. First book was about working class Black kids growing up in Washington DC in the early 20th century. Second project examines long history of anti-Black police violence in DC and community, coalitional campaigns against it from Red Summer to Black Power. Third project will trace a history of self, community care and ethics of care in Black women and WOC activist organizations from late nineteenth century through Black Lives Matter. I also lead faculty and staff workshops on designing for anti-racist, inclusive classrooms through interrogating the exclusivity embedded in the histories of our disciplines.Before the academy, I worked in (queer, poc) non-profit orgs for many years: as an executive director, development director, program director.
