In my almost 25 years of teaching, I have taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, seventh grade, and eighth grade. All but one of those years were served in the Hancock County School District. I transferred and completed my first year as their middle school gifted teacher in the Pass Christian Public School District last school year. Although I enjoyed teaching in the regular classroom, my love has been teaching gifted education for the last 18 years. Teaching in the gifted classroom allows me freedom to facilitate learning in creative and problem solving ways. During my career in the HCSD, I also served as our district's gifted liaison. This included organizing district gifted meetings, arranging participation in state level conferences, organizing district gifted fundraisers, and maintaining communication between district Office of Exceptional Children personnel and state gifted officers.My plan is to continue my teaching career in the PSPSD until retirement. I have not decided what my next career will be but plan to continue working after retirement.
