I am a member of the Senate of Canada, where I represent Alberta as an independent non-partisan senator. I am the deputy chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, and a member of the Standing Senate Committee on Transportation and Communications and the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.Before being appointed to the Senate of Canada in October of 2018, I worked for 30 years as a journalist, primarily at CBC Radio and at the Edmonton Journal, where I won a number of National Newspaper Awards and citations. I still write a regular freelance column for Alberta Views Magazine, and was nominated for a National Magazine Award in 2020. I'm also the creator and host of Alberta Unbound, a monthly podcast which explores and interrogates issues of Alberta identity. As of June, 2023, the podcast had more than 25,000 downloads.
