I am obsessed with outstanding houses. I grew up in the suburbs of Austin, in an area that was growing rapidly, and new home construction was all around me. Starting when I was about 12, I enjoyed walking through the houses on my street that were being framed. I walked them on the weekend, when no one was there, and instantly fell in love with construction and design. (Pro tip: I still walk houses in frame stage, I just bring a clip board with me so I look official and no one questions me.)My childhood obsession turned into a career, and an ongoing source of happiness. I took an AutoCAD class in high school, and have been using it since. I earned a degree in architectural engineering because it had the word 'architecture' in it, and I could learn more about the wood frames that were so cool to me. The only thing that's changed in my obsession with houses is elevating my taste to more sophisticated homes with some neat exposed structural elements. I have worked in some segment of the housing industry nearly my entire career, and done everything from house design, to structural plans for houses, to septic systems and plot plans for houses. Looking forward, I want to expand my knowledge of wood, steel, concrete, and masonry even further. With this increased knowledge, I want to help make a difference in the built environment, both in beauty, and in efficiency of resources.
