Created curriculum for the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, the Education Network of Ontario, the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, Muskoka Language International and Platointeractive Virtual Academy.

Worked one-one-one and in small groups to foster a love of writing among the Grade 1 to 6 students at Muskoka Montessori School. In addition to weekly lessons and feedback on student writing, this involves organizing a creative writing assembly and producing an annual anthology of student work. Currently arranging to get get student stories on local radio in the fall of 2013.

Taught English classes for Japanese students in the summers of 2000 and 2001, plus one week in the winter of 2012. In 2001, I used my knowledge of Japanese culture and of ESL teaching to create detailed manuals for homestay program coordinators and teachers of English as a Second Language employed by MLI. I have also acted as a tutor for several of MLI's long-term exchange students.

Conducted storytelling and writing workshops with seniors in Huntsville and then helped to write and produce an hour-long radio drama about their life experiences, which aired on Hunters Bay Radio on January 27, 2011.

Edited articles of six reporters, making suggestions to clarify, tighten and improve stories. Responsible for final proofreading, plus some headline and cutline writing. At times I was also called upon to copy edit the Almaguin News and the Muskokan, two newspapers owned by the same company.

As coordinator of Ontario Blogs, an online publishing project for schools, posted weekly blogs to provide information and inspiration to participating teachers and left comments on some student work.

As part of the Education Network of Ontario's "Curriculinks" initiative, researched and presented monthly featured resources with accompanying lesson plans for elementary and secondary students.

Worked with students of all levels to help them develop skills in critical thinking, self-expression and literary analysis. Also acted as a staff advisor for an art and literary magazine.

Toyama, Japan

Developed interactive lessons and activities to help Japanese high school students improve their oral and written English. Was also a staff supervisor of the English Club, helped to organize an English speech contest for students in Toyama, and provided professional development to fellow ALTs at both the prefectural and national level.

Researched the history of the Italians in Huntsville using interviews, archives and libraries and created a museum display and written report.

Researched the history of heritage buildings in Huntsville, Ontario. Conducted interviews, visited archives and libraries, and produced reports on the buildings for the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee.

Helped to bring the history of Muskoka alive for visitors as a costumed historical interpreter during the summer months.
