Children'S Supervisor
CurrentOversee the daily operation of the Children's Department. Planned and execute a labeling, weeding, updating and reorganizing project of the entire Children's materials collection. Selected new shelving units. Responsible for collection development and the management of a $43,000 materials budget. Created and carry out a yearly outreach plan to connect the library with preschools and community organizations serving children and families. Established and maintain a collaborative working relationship with 6 local elementary schools and the Needham Science Center. Develop extensive library programing for families and children in all age groups from birth to 6th grade. Work in conjunction with the YA Librarian to offer programs for YA's and Tweens. Schedule, train and supervise a staff of 5 professional MLS Children's Librarians, 1 para-professional 6 Library Pages and volunteers. Completed Mind in the Making early Child Development training. Increased attendance at Children's library programs by 113% in the first year.Increased Summer Reading registrations by 200% in the first year and again by 33% in the second year. Wrote a successful Science is Everywhere Grant to create a STEAM Center/Maker Space for school aged children.Added manipulatives and building materials beneficial for brain development in the preschool area.Instituted storytimes in a variety of languages utilizing native speakers to meet community needs.
