Directed BASF’s global biocide business, which operated from a stand-alone site in Nottingham and reported functionally into BASF’s headquarters in Germany. Activities in Nottingham included the provision of strategic leadership and all marketing, technical and regulatory services to support BASF’s biocide business worldwide.Initial responsibility as Managing Director of BASF Biocides Ltd (which was subsequently integrated into BASF plc in 2005), was to restructure and turn around this speciality chemical business during a difficult period of change.Leadership, development and motivation of a team of managers and other specialist staff based in the UK & Germany. Also led a global "virtual" team of colleagues from the UK, US, Brazil and China.Full P&L responsibility for BASF's international biocide business. Day to day operational tasks included directing the development of product, market, pricing and distribution strategies, setting targets and identifying corrective action as required.Developed and implemented a five year strategic plan, which incorporated growth through both organic development and acquisition. Led the due diligence, acquisition and integration of the Engelhard (2006) and Ciba (2009) biocide businesses into BASF.Role required the ability to foster internal networks and communicate at many levels, in order to build consensus and support for business proposals across a matrix organisation.Accountable as “Site Director” for the safe operation of the Nottingham building, which included managing a £ multi-million cost budget and overseeing all aspects of facility management to ensure that the office and laboratory operate both efficiently and effectively.Member of BASF’s UK/Nordic Executive Leadership team. Collective responsibilities included defining Business Centre policies, setting employee terms and conditions, directing employee development and overseeing corporate representation in the region.
