I develop Web and CRM technology for Ecampus Marketing & Enrollment Services. I implement designs, troubleshoot problems, and help Ecampus communicate in clear, consistent, and accessible ways.

MetaFilter is one of the oldest Web communities. It's a general interest site where thousands of people gather to discuss points of interest around the Web. Ask MetaFilter hosts hundreds of questions and answers from the MetaFilter community each week.I was the sole developer and technical admin. I made sure the site was fast, available, and accessible across devices. I worked with MetaFilter moderators to build tools for managing the community and with the community to build features at the site. I managed the database and servers, organized backup plans, and monitored performance. MetaFilter serves around 18 million pageviews/month.

Built a social fuel economy site and application with Matt Haughey. Our aim was to help people track and share their vehicle fuel consumption so they could understand and change it. I wrote the code, designed the database, and provided support to members. We grew the site to over 100k members and sold it to a company that manages car-related networks in 2012.

I wrote consumer books about Web technologies for O'Reilly Media. Titles I've written--Amazon Hacks, Yahoo! Hacks. Titles I've co-authored--We Blog: Publishing Online with Weblogs (for Wiley), Google Hacks, and Flickr Hacks.

I advised and assisted companies with web applications and web services.

Helped create the weblog application Blogger with Web application development, SQL Server database design and maintenance, JavaScript, HTML, and ASP coding. Also helped with marketing, customer service, documentation, a bit of everything. Blogger kicked off a wave of personal publishing online and was purchased by Google in 2003.
