I work as a Senior Manager in the tax team at KPMG in Guernsey with a primary focus on the Private Client area of the business.The key aspect of my role is providing tax services to individuals, companies and trusts which have a Guernsey nexus. From a private client perspective a lot of my work involves advising on issues of UK residence and domicile and assisting clients with fiscal planning should they choose to live in Guernsey. This includes estate planning but also fundamental, practical assistance for Guernsey residents wanting to run a business out of the island.The second part of my role is advising non-UK resident trusts on UK tax issues. From assisting with compliance to technical review and HMRC disclosure, this is a complex area and ever expanding transparency measures combined with public mind-set make it both interesting and sensitive.The third key component of my role is focussed on property holding. The growing combination of HMRC measures that impact non-UK resident individuals and structures seeking to own UK residential property make this an ever changing area, from the extension of IHT to cover UK residential property held in offshore structures to the UK's transactions in land rules, both holding and developing UK property are increasingly complex.Finally, I spend a significant amount of time interacting with Guernsey businesses in respect of tax risk. This is an area of my role that is ever evolving in line with global trends but at present focuses on two key initiatives. Firstly, guiding businesses within the financial services sector in respect of the implications of the Corporate Criminal Offence and secondly assisting all clients and businesses to understand the potential implications of the Requirement to Correct provisions.

I worked in the Intertrust Private Client tax team managing a portfolio of High Net Worth Individual's, Guernsey and UK companies and offshore trusts providing a combination of compliance and advisory services primarily to Guernsey based individual's and their businesses.I advised a number of high net worth individual's on their relocation to Guernsey from a Guernsey and UK perspective including advising on the residence and domicile implications.In addition I was fortunate to work on a number of very large property clients and greatly enhance my knowledge and understanding of the tax issues impacting offshore property holding structures.

I joined the PwC graduate scheme in 2007 as a member of the tax team, undertaking my ACCA exams in the first three years of my training contract before progressing to Senior Associate. I worked on Guernsey, UK and international corporate and private client work undertaking a mixture of compliance and advisory work. From providing tax compliance services to the banking sector to advising individuals on all that Guernsey had to offer the role was a perfect platform for experiencing a variety of different challenges and helped me to secure in my mind that I wanted to head down the private client route in the long term.
