As the Infrastructure Engineering Manager, I manage our Infrastructure Engineering team whose responsibilities in this area transformed from just DevOps to also include Platform Engineering and managing our cloud infrastructure at Truckstop in Azure, AWS, and GCP. The Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for building our cloud infrastructure using Terraform. We take a GitOps approach to managing resources deployed to our Kubernetes clusters using Kustomize in most cases. We also have some implementations using Helm Charts, primarily for 3rd party systems. ArgoCD manages these resources.I also our manage are DBAs and Database Reliability Engineers who are responsible for maintaining our databases. These members of our team leverage Terraform to deploy new database servers, usually onto managed platforms such as Azure Flexible PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora RDS. We also have a large number of databases hosted on various SQL Server platforms.

As the DevOps Manager, I lead our team, whose mission is to empower our product development teams to build and deliver products to our customers more quickly, with greater reliability, and high confidence for a successful rollout. We accomplish this by building automated CI/CD workflows to deliver software updates, building our infrastructure using tools like Terraform, and adding observability.As our team continues to grow, we are starting to implement chaos engineering, and build out Site Reliability Engineering competencies with our team members. By growing our team into these areas we can help Truckstop move more quickly and allow our product developers to focus on adding value to our products.I work with our team members to understand where their passion lies and putting them into the best position to succeed. We provide ample training opportunities for our team members and build out training plans to help our engineers grow at Truckstop. At Truckstop, our team works with all three major cloud providers with our preferred provider being Azure.

Cloud Architects are senior technical leaders who have an in-depth understanding of cloud infrastructure design, modern DevOps and cloud technologies, and CI/CD build pipelines. The Cloud Architect provide technical leadership to DevOps engineers and work in partnership with other architectural leaders to evaluate current systems and propose and implement infrastructure solutions. Assesses the compatibility and integration of products/services proposed in order to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent technologies. They are involved early in the product development lifecycle driving innovation, cloud strategy, and architecture. Cloud Architects are accountable for the operational stability, readiness, and resilience of our platforms. Cloud Architects serve as practice leads for our DevOps Engineering Chapter, providing guidance and technical leadership for improved build pipelines, release velocity, operational readiness, automation, instrumentation, security, scalability, and stability of our platforms. They also encourage the formation of grass roots Guilds to advance the state-of-practice.Senior Cloud Architects may troubleshoot production issues and respond to incidents.
