Intellectual Property (IP) plays a significant role in our economy. It is critical to investment in innovation, access to markets and product pricing. Effective investment in, and use of, IP requires companies to bring rigour and quality to the management of their intellectual assets. Patents must have purpose. I have extensive expertise in patent portfolio development and an intimate understanding of the rigour required at all stages of the innovation and patent lifecycle. I have a strong and diverse technical background, developed in pioneering companies in military radio, telecommunications infrastructure, and mobile computing, gaining in-depth knowledge of many transformational developments in telecommunications. I have served on the ATIS Board.Prior to becoming a Partner at QipWorks, I played a fundamental role in advancing BlackBerry’s foundational patent portfolio. I instigated and led multiple IP programmes bringing diligence to high-value assets. I was integral to the monetization of this portfolio realising $100Ms, significantly reducing the cost of ownership and developing 100’s of litigation-ready claim charts. I have enjoyed considerable success defending against IP assertions by practicing and non-practicing entities. My experiences have fostered a deep insight into evolving technologies. I have spoken at both Cornell University and Imperial College on technology adoption and economic network effects. As an inventor on over 30 patent families I have a thorough appreciation of the invention process.By applying my extensive experience from invention to monetization, I have delivered significant value across the entire intellectual property value chain.
