This role was created in 2010 to implement best practice in the sourcing and management of outsourced services within Sainsbury's Bank in preparation for their divestment from Lloyds Banking Group into a wholly owned subsidiary of J Sainsburys plc. Key responsibilities of this role included:• Leading the FSA engagement on the oversight of critical outsourced activities with FSA “Approved Person” status.• Leading the sourcing of all new significant outsourced arrangements.• Developing, implementing and managing a new supplier relationship management framework. Key achievements in this role included:• Developing and implementing the sourcing strategy for a core banking replacement programme covering IT systems, infrastructure, systems integration and hosting arrangements together with the associated business process outsourcing for all front and back-office activities. Accountable for the contract negotiation with the successful bidders and the extensive stakeholder engagement required for approval.• Leading the supplier selection and contracting activities for the end-to-end car and home insurance arrangements covering sales and servicing, underwriting and fulfillment operations.

Leading a team responsible for the sourcing of IT Hardware, Software and Professional Services for large-scale business led change programmes

Responsible for the development of new shared service offerings and the management of significant outsourced supply arrangements .Successfully launched four significant pan-Group shared services in three years including a Print Managed Service and a Distributed Output Managed Service. Unlocked substantial value for the organisation through application of value chain analysis and development of category strategies supported by innovative commercial arrangements.

Internal technology account management.

Following the merger of Halifax and Bank of Scotland, appointed to role of Head of IT Procurement - reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. This role was also a member of the senior technology decision-making bodies. Key achievements in this role included:• Exceeding the target for the synergy benefits from the combined organisation’s technology supplier base. • Taking responsibility for Group-wide technology synergy governance. • Driving the commercial agenda for the future of the former Bank of Scotland outsourced contracts with major IT providers.• Successfully mitigating contract exit costs and returning significant provisions upon termination.

New role create to establish a dedicated technology procurement team as part of the IT Leadership Team. Key responsibilities included authorising every major IT purchase and contract and personally leading the most significant procurement activities in an environment where the total external spend was in excess of £300m. Key achievements during this period included:• Leading the commercial technology work stream of the Halifax and Bank of Scotland synergy programme ahead of the merger itself.• Renegotiating every major ISV software contract delivering benefits in excess of £20m.• Championing and negotiating of the banks first ever Microsoft Enterprise Agreement resolving compliance issues and delivering significant savings.• Leading the commercial and contractual negotiation for a major software development with a leading IT provider that used innovative shared risk and reward mechanisms to guarantee delivery on time and within cost constraints. • Leading the technology procurement stream for the acquisition of the operating assets of the Equitable Life Assurance Society.
