I am the William and Roceil Low Professor of Business Strategy at BYU Marriott School of Business, and am an award winning author, teacher and researcher. My latest book, Clean: Lessons from Ecolab's century of positive impact (Wiley, 2023) lays out the principles Ecolab has used for 100 years to create one of the world's premiere and sustainable companies.Clean is my fifth book. I've published two other professional books: Strategic Risk Management: New tools for competitive advantage in an uncertain age (Berrett-Koehler, 2020) and More than Money: The five types of capital that create wealth and eliminate poverty, with Stanford University Press (2014). Each of these books helps individuals and organizations flourish in uncertain and often hostile times. I've also authored two textbooks, Strategic Management (Wiley, 2021) and Ethics in Business (Wiley, 2022). These books prepare students to flourish in an everchanging and complex business world.As a professor, I currently lead Cougar Strategy Group, a student-led, professionally-mentored strategy consulting group. I teach dynamic and engaging experience-based courses on decision-making and social innovation. My research focuses on how strategic risk management influences business performance, and how activities like corporate social responsibility provide risk protection for businesses. My work has appeared in top academic journals, including Nature Biotechnology, the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Business Ethics.Let's talk.
