Paul is a mature doctoral student in the composition of choral & vocal music with composer Prof. Paul Mealor (April 2000-August 2024) and, as from October 2024, with Prof. Phillip Cooke & Dr. Jonathan Hicks at Kings College, University of Aberdeen.Paul's career in higher education began in 1992 when the University of Birmingham appointed him Academic Adviser, author, lecturer & team lead for music in the department of continuing education. This partly ran alongside Paul's MPhil research in Mahler Studies at Birmingham University, and, later, a PGCE in secondary music education at Birmingham City University.During seven years in post at Birmingham University, Paul devised & delivered accredited certificates & diplomas - each cert/dip equivalent to the whole first/second year of a degree in music at Birmingham - with routes in classical music, jazz, music technology & specialist studies in primary music education, together with a collection of around twenty stand-alone accredited units of study. During Paul's time in post courses in music became one of the largest fields of study within continuing education. The department was subsequently subsumed into the Faculty of Arts.Paul continued as an active academic & researcher in both music and music education at a variety of universities, including a Senior Lectureship at Birmingham City University, a Teacher Fellowship at Warwick University, and as an academic adviser in music & the arts at Lancaster University. He has also held a variety of visiting lectureships at Manchester Metropolitan & Wolverhampton Universities. He is currently available to take on small amounts of work such as this.Paul also held various posts as a musical director of choirs and was one of the leads for the development of the "Singing Communities" project for Youth Music. Paul has held choral scholarships (bass/countertenor) at Birmingham Oratory and St Chad's Metropolitan Cathedral. Paul is a reviewer of all forms of art musics for www.ReviewsGate.co.uk and has also been part of the editorial team for the University of Aberdeen's annual Granite Research Journal & Research Symposium.Paul has a very beautiful & multi-talented guide-cum-assistance dog, a black lab called "Mr. JJ". Paul, together with his singer husband of 39yrs, David, enjoy times away in their lil' tourer caravan, as well as cooking, crafting, gardening & entertaining. Paul & David sing in Brimingham Choral Union. They were also the founders and musical directors of "Rainbow Voices", the Birmingham-based LGBTQ+ choir from 1996-2002.
