Led a team of 20 journalists in London and Bangalore reporting on UK business news. I rebuilt one of the news teams most impacted by Thomson's takeover of Reuters in 2008 at the same time as overseeing coverage of the banking crisis. I also deputised as bureau chief in our Athens and Dublin bureaux at key moments during the euro zone crisis; reported from the streets of Ealing during the 2011 London riots; and was a regular news ambassador for our sales teams, delivering presentations at 10 Downing Street, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and the University of Durham.

Paul ran Reuters news operations in Ireland for two years, rounding off a four-year posting in the country during which he covered everything from IRA disarmament and the birth of the Paisley-McGuinness power-sharing administration in Northern Ireland to the Celtic Tiger boom and bust and the occasional international rugby match, including the first historic games at Croke Park.

I arrived in Frankfurt the day Deutsche Bank and Dresdner announced their star-crossed merger and stayed long enough to cover the birth of the euro, the bursting of the dot-com bubble and what, at the time, was Germany's reputation as the sick man of Europe.
