I focus my practice on real property and related business transactions. This means that I am often called upon to counsel clients on acquisitions and dispositions of commercial and industrial buildings throughout California. I also advise many clients on the development of industrial, retail and office projects. Naturally, as part of that acquisition, disposition and development work, I will work with my clients concerning all aspects of their finance needs. I routinely advise landlords and tenants with respect to leasing transactions. Finally, in my role as general counsel for many of these owners, developers and users of real property I will assist in entity governance, review of transaction documents, or mergers and acquisitions while coordinating the client's needs with lawyers practicing more specialized disciplines of including employment, taxation, and litigation.

I originally started as an associate when this firm was known as Homan and Lobb. I became a non-capital partner in May of 1998, and a capital partner in January of 2000. At the beginning I handled mostly real estate and business litigation. Over time, I began handling more and more transactions to the point where I rarely appeared in court except for jury duty, though I have tried four jury trials and four bench trials to verdict.

This firm represented closely held businesses and wealthy individuals in a variety of litigation matters. Since most of the clients were real estate investors, developers or brokers, I continued to develop my skills and substantive legal knowledge in all aspects of California real property law. Harrison E. Bull and Martin P. Cohn, were fun, smart guys from whom I learned a great deal about life and the practice of law.

I began my legal career in this home office of a state wide law firm which at the time had 140 attorneys and an extremely challenging environment. My boss, Steve Dake, is a fine lawyer from whom I learned a great deal in his practice which focused upon taxation, estate planning, real estate and business transactions.
