## What I doOwner of Uplift, US(CO)-based product + engineering, with a background in Silicon Valley. We specialize in building products. Often, prototypes and MVPs. We build quality software with great user experience. We stand out through our focus on the product, and follow through to help you scale and build a team around it. We're dedicated to delighting clients, and don't take on projects unless we're confident in delivering to our high standards. To learn more about me and Uplift, check out: https://www.uplift.ltd## Who forTypical clients include:- single/multi-founder companies without a tech team. Don't have to be technical, but it helps.- tech companies with a project to hand off- tech companies with ambitious goals who need a quality team to move faster- small/mid fintech, edtech or healthtech companies- executives wanting guidance on architecture, scaling, or hiring/interviewing engineers- projects that need maintenance (preferably with planned growth in the next 6 months)We support you long after project completion.## WhyThe simplest truth is that I thrive growing products, and people. It drives me. It keeps me young and curious, my mind open.I want to help products succeed by using tech to save time and frustration. I also enjoy solving complex problems with research and critical thinking.I've worn many hats: engineering lead, 2x business/startup founder, individual freelancer, owner of a service agency, building and launching many products. I'm passionate about HCI. My favorite projects are detail-oriented, challenging, cross-team and cross-functional.I want to help people learn and grow, a big part of consulting. I enjoy mentoring and it teaches me, too. If you're looking for 1:1 or small group technical mentorship or coaching, reach out.Other things I'm proud of:* doing the Silicon Valley startup thing out of a mobile home, by which I mean running a well-funded company for a year (not really)* building an admissions website for a university, from scratch, with FERPA efforts. It resulted in the first batch of students and a bias-free evaluation system based on a formula.* mentoring engineers* building a profitable service business with $2MM+ YRR* programming since age 14

Software EngineerMinerva Project Mar 2013 - Nov 2014San Francisco, Ca, UsFull stack, product building, prototyping, interviewing, etcI spent the first six months working on our single-page web app, building towards the student classroom experience. This was largely in Clojure on the backend (eventually switched to Django) and Backbone/Marionette with jQuery on the front-end.Around the beginning of 2014 I switched my focus to build a university admissions website for our future students (the main source of revenue for our business' future). This has been a heavily cross-team, tight-deadline project. My responsibilities included:* Meeting demands from various teams * operations: for triaging, evaluating, and ranking students for admission * legal: student data storage, privacy and security (one- and two-way encryption, storing data securely, managing permissions, etc), including updates and internal tracking for versions of admissions policy, terms of service and privacy policy * marketing: for increasing the top of the funnel and throughput on the first step of the application process * academics: for content, fairness, correctness, and algorithms involved in our process, including our ranking tools and admissions formula (which I conveniently termed "the bar") * and engineering: sometimes delivering as a solo engineer, sometimes with help (be it part-time from Minerva's engineering team, or with external contractors)* Building a never-before-seen, modern, speedy application process* Building internal tools to aid our academics team in ranking and filtering our applicants* Sharpening my product management skills * Working closely with head of Admissions Operations * Gathering and writing requirements * Creating wireframes for review by our lead UX designer -
Software EngineerHumble Bundle Feb 2012 - Mar 2013San Francisco, California, UsAll around engineering stuff. Coding, testing, bundling, etc. Some highlights of projects I worked on:Humble Bundle: Flask UploaderThis was a Flask app I built to handle things that Google Appengine could not easily do, namely large file uploads (using filepicker) and deferred tasks using the file system. This involved building some secure JSON APIs on the AppEngine side as well, which was quite a bit of fun. Humble Bundle used this for a good chunk of time after my departure. Also included was a job runner showing live progress (in the browser) using Firebase.Humble Bundle AppEngine Admin & ToolsAs part of building a user-friendly admin interface to Google Appengine, I open sourced much of my work [1]. It was an attempt to encourage the Humble Bundle engineering team to think and contribute more globally. Our code quality was steadily improving during my time there, and I believe my efforts contributed to that substantially.[1] http://embrangler.com/2012/08/introducing-google-app-engine-paginator/ -
