I have over 30 years of experience as an international corporate lawyer, assisting clients as trusted advisor on their most important public and private transactions and challenges. I am currently independent director at Fortenova, the largest company in Croatia, and at Italian-headquartered Octo Telematics. Further I am engaged in advisory work on strategic, M&A, governance and legal aspects, including providing guidance and advice to start- and scale-ups.I started my career at Blackstone, Rueb & van Boeschoten in the firm's head office in The Hague, before moving to Los Angeles to set up and lead a new branch office. In 1990 I became partner in the newly merged firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, transferring to New York where I was resident partner. In 1992 I returned to Amsterdam where I founded and for many years headed the Corporate/M&A department.Throughout my career, I have assisted clients from all over the world as trusted advisor with a holistic perspective focusing on strategy, governance, and execution. I have also regularly advised boards on corporate governance and shareholder activism, and have acted as arbitrator in numerous Dutch and international arbitrations.In addition I have held various other positions, including non-executive director of credit insurer NCM (predecessor of Atradius), member of the Legal Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands, General Secretary and Steering Committee member of EALIC (European Association of Listed Companies, one of the predecessors of European Issuers), and Chairman of the Strategy Working Group, Law Firm Management Committee, International Bar Association.My law degrees are from Leiden University (Masters Degree) and Columbia Law School in New York (LL.M.). I have also studied at Instead (International Directors Program) and Harvard Business School (Leading Professional Service Firms Program).
