Paul and his team led the operation of this start-up business through a doubling of its revenue, profit and employee base, and through the transition to a 100% remote work model due to COVID.

Liberty Utilities acquired two utility companies from Enbridge. Hibernia led the transition of the acquired companies into the US-based operations of Liberty. This included the transition of 150 employees from Enbridge to Liberty, customer communications, migration from the Enbridge to the Liberty IT systems, and the operational aspects of the regulatory.

Paul was part of the executive team that started and operated a $200 million services company that was acquired by Accenture, then rebranded as Accenture Business Services for Utilities. ABSU provides Customer Care and IT services on behalf of utilities. Paul led the solution design, due diligence, contract negotiation, and start-up of these newly acquired.

Paul also served as operational lead for the start-up of Accenture’s newly formed Accenture Customer Contact Services business. They provide B2B and B2C technical support (helpdesk) on behalf of several large Telco’s and insurance companies through a global network of 7,000+ employee and vendor Call Center agents.

AirSource built, then operated, a $200 million Manitoba wind power project. At the time, this was the largest wind farm in Canada. Paul served on the Board from pre-IPO start-up through to IPO, then sold the business to private equity (per the IPO prospectus). The business delivered >20% annualized return to IPO investors.

Ontario And New Brunswick, Canada

Paul led the start-up and operation of a shared service company that provided IT, HR Administration, Fleet Management, Heavy Equipment Maintenance and Facilities Management services to other Enbridge-related companies. Annual revenues were over $100 million with assets of $100 million. Paul was also part of the Executive team that led the spin-off and sale.

Paul led a $60 million per year IT group that implemented and operated a very large mix of mainframe and client-server (pre-cloud) systems. They also pioneered the use of mobile computing in a utility workforce.

Paul was responsible for all aspects of Enbridge’s 600 employee, multi-site, Call Centre and Account Collection operation. He led consolidation of the smaller regional utility sites, and an overall culture shift to a high-performance operation. This was done in a unionized environment.
